In honor of National Newspaper Week October 6th -October 12th, it is only fitting that we honor and recognize our own editor and owner of the Announcer, Wagner Post, Lake Andes Wave, and Avon Clarion, Barb Pechous.
The cross country athlete of the week is Parker Podzimek. Parker’s parents are Kenny and Whitney Podzimek. Parker joined cross country because all of his friends went out.
Trevor Matthew Eggers is the son of Matt Eggers and Kelly Dierkson, step mom Liz Eggers. Trevor has two sisters, Addy Lavelle and Evie Eggers. His hobbies include singing, basketball, and golf.
Mylie Faye Bares was born on December 12th, 2006 and is the daughter of Kevin Bares and Jennie Leibel and the sister of Gage and Keely Bares.
Wagner Community School welcomed a new second grade teacher, Maggie Baumgart. Maggie is originally from Parkston and attended the University of South Dakota for her teaching degree.

The Red Raiders suffered defeat by score of 8-49 against Elk Point- Jefferson. The lone Red Raiders TD was thrown late in the 4th Quarter by Cruise Koupal to Beau Otte.
The Pirates remain undefeated after their big win last Friday night against TDA/AC/ DC at Armour 30-26.
Avon traveled to Marion on Monday, September 30th and earned the win 3-0. Leading the attack was Rilyn Thury with 11 kills, and Lila Vanderlei had 9.
Update on Tyndall-Platte Rail & Trail: I attended a meeting in Lake Andes August 27th where engineers who will be doing the feasibility study gave their plan on the process.

The new September/October issue of South Dakota Magazine includes a story about our continental divide, a unique area in the far northeastern corner of the state that separates two watersheds.
October 2nd found us at the Rotary Clubhouse with three more Wagner Community Seniors present. They introduced themselves and spoke about their studies and their future.

Lee Bridge (1941-2024), 83, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024 peacefully in his sleep at his home in Wagner, SD.
went to work as a ranch hand in the White River area. Their first child, Brenda Lea was born followed a year later by Bradley Eric.
went to live with his mom and step-father Leo O’Connor in Eagle Butte, where he worked as a security guard at the cultural center.
Funeral services for Cheryl Ann Selwyn, 76, of Lake Andes were held Monday, September 23 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Marty. Burial was in the St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery.
