    On Tuesday, August 25th, the Grass Ranch Colony north of Platte was packed with energy as it hosted a massive, hands-on Farm Safety Day. Around 500 people turned out for the big event, and a whopping 250 of them were kids in grades 1–8 from our own Lakeview Colony and ten neighboring colonies.

    On Tuesday, September 15th the Wagner Lady Red Raiders hosted the Avon Lady Pirates in the 2026 homecoming match. Wagner came ready to play and came away with wins at all levels. Scores of the varsity match were 25-18, 2519, and 25-13.

    For Wagner Cross Country runners, running in the rain is nothing new. They train rain or shine and are becoming better for that. On Monday, September 14 in Pickstown, the weather was sprinkling rain and a bit breezy at first, but cleared as the races started.

    The Lake Andes Public Library is taking steps to help bridge the digital divide by making mobile internet hotspots available for circulation beginning Wednesday, Sept. 16.According to 2022 U.S. Census data, approximately one in five South Dakota households does not have an internet subscription.

    The Avon Lady Pirates traveled to Wagner on Tuesday, September 15, where they fell to the Red Raiders in three sets, 18-25, 19-25 and 13-25.Rilyn Thury led Avon at the net with 10 kills, followed by Kaydence Metzger with eight and Rowan Brandt with five.

    Bettie Schuler, daughter of Eldon and Ida (Finck) Voigt, was born on the family farm near Avon on March 24, 1938. She passed away on September 12 at the age of 88. Bettie grew up in the Avon area and graduated from Avon High School in 1956.

    The Avon 8U Baseball team wrapped up its season in championship fashion by hosting and winning the 8U League Tournament on Saturday, June 27. The young Pirates opened the tournament with a 15-4 victory over Tabor before defeating Parkston 7-2 to advance to the championship game.
