The Lake Andes Public Library Board will meet December 12th at 4:45 p.m. at the new library address 17 Park Ave. The meeting is open to the public.
Read moreStudents and staff at Andes Central were invited to read books with a Native American theme and/or written by an Indigenous author during November in honor of Native American Heritage Month. After reading, students completed an entry slip which included writing a sentence sharing what they thought about each book. Participants gathered in the school library last Friday for the drawing of prizes. In total, 36 people joined the reading challenge and read 115 Native books.
Read moreRapid City hosted the 2023 State FFA Leadership Development Event (LDE) competition. State qualifier, Riata Bultje, her sister, Emery Bultje and FFA advisor, Darren DeNeui, traveled to Rapid City December 3-4 to attend the competition. Riata competed in the Prepared Public Speaking with her presentation about the benefits of incorporating soil health practices into farm work. Although she did not place in the top eight in her event, the three had great experience.

Read moreTiff Hrdlicka Teigen with the East River Horizons Team presented Nadine Striven, a member of the Helping Hands Backpack program, a check for $250.00. The Helping Hands Backpack program currently sends food home for the weekend to 79 kindergarten-1st graders from the Wagner Community School. The East River Horizons is a non-profit organization with a mission to promote unity, one relationship at a time. Horizons was made aware of the funding needs of the backpack program during a monthly Wagner Chamber of Commerce meeting and Horizons members were eager to assist. Horizons Board members include Amy Doom, President; Yelle Turner, Vice-President; Tiff Hrdlicka Teigen, Treasurer; Pam Red Lightning, Secretary; and three new members: Becca Red Lightning, Jolene Red Lightning and Mackenzie Havranek. Horizons is looking forward to a fresh start in 2024, with new ideas to make a positive impact in our East River communities.
