American Legion Greer Post #11 held its monthly meeting on June 15, 2023 with two guests in attendance, John and Don Slaba. Also in attendance was one Boys Stater, Dan Soukup. Americanism Officer Don Kotab had Dan Soukup give a report on his activities at Boys State this year. Dan thanked the Post allowing him to attend the Boys State Convention. Commander Clayton Rados thanked the cooks for the delicious meal. Chaplain Don Kotab gave the invocation which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion was recited by all members. Commander Rados then called the meeting to order.

Read moreTheodore “Teddy” Slaba of Wagner is the recipient of the $2,000 South Dakota Services for the Deaf Foundation Scholarship. Teddy plans to attend the University of South Dakota, majoring in education. While in high school, Teddy participated in many activities, including the National Honor Society, church volunteering, cross country, basketball, baseball, and track. The one thing is most proud of is being a student intern. As a senior, he worked with a teacher to help with younger students. He also volunteered to ref many of their basketball games. In addition, he also coached younger students during the off-season and summer months to help them learn the fundamentals of basketball. This coaching experience was very rewarding to him and helped in his decision to major in education, to be a teacher and a coach.
Read moreThe patient was young, healthy, and short of breath. She had not been sick recently, other than a minor cough. Her oxygen level was normal and her lungs sounded clear. Her heart rate was a little fast and she was breathing rather quickly, too. She was anxious about it, but she knew there was more to this than anxiety. Meanwhile, she was taking an antibiotic for bronchitis which did not seem to be helping. We did some additional tests, some blood work, to look for other possible causes. One test result gave us a big clue: her “d-dimer” was elevated. While not tied to a specific diagnosis, this gave us more reason to keep looking.
