Read moreAthletes from the Wagner Waves Swim Team competed at the 2023 AAU Junior Olympics from July 27th - 30th in Des Moines, IA as part of the James River Valley League Team along with other athletes from the league and over 600 national and international athletes. The James River Valley League had a total of 44 athletes on their roster that combined for a total of 510 points and finished the event with a 12th place ranking out of 31.

Mel is one of the most encouraging, caring, supportive coaches and humans I know. You will always see Mel at the finish line cheering on her team and she is always right there with a big hug to let them know they did their best. She celebrates every win or loss! Mel truly loves swimming, and you can see her passion at every practice and meet. Every swimmer knows she believes in them and because of that their own confidence grows. Even the most anxious, nervous swimmer builds confidence because of her. Positive, passionate, silly, humble, dedicated, energetic, encouraging, self-sacrificing, and teasing are some of the words the swimmers use to describe Mel, and I think those words fit her to a tee!
