Read moreOn Monday, June 28, Wagner’s 16U teener squad traveled to Emery for one game. Wagner would take an 8-2 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning. Emery, however, would come back by scoring three in the fifth and three in the sixth while Wagner’s bats went silent. Both teams went scoreless in the 7th inning. In the extra frame Wagner was able to plate two as we went Major League style by starting a runner at second base. Carlin Hopkins was the runner and scored after Hunter Loeffler reached on an error. Ted Slaba would then knock in Loeffler. Matt Link, who came on to pitch in the 7th, faced the minimum in his two innings of work, with help from Loeffler as he would throw out the would-be winning run in the bottom of the 7th trying to steal third. Matt struck out the side in the bottom of the 8th to earn the win for the visiting team by a final count of 10-8.

Read moreOn Thursday, July 1, Wagner’s teeners played host to Scotland. As usual, we started with the 14U game. To put it nicely, this was a step in the wrong direction for these boys. We had been playing some pretty decent baseball lately, especially with our pitching and defense. Wagner committed five errors in the first three innings to allow eight unearned Scotland runs to cross the plate. Preston McFayden was the unfortunate recipient of this porous defense. He certainly pitched well enough to go deeper in the game than he did. Preston would go just the three innings giving up the eight unearned runs on five hits while walking four and striking out three. Frank Soukup relieved in the 4th inning. He would go 1.2 innings giving up three runs, two of which were earned. Frank allowed two hits and four walks. Malakai Segura did come on to record the final out of the 5th inning.
