LADY PIRATES BATTLED CORSICA/STICKNEY

On Tuesday, October 19th, the Lady Pirates hosted the Corsica/ Stickney Jaguars. Tiffany Pelton took charge at the Lady Pirate net with 17 kills. She rounded out her stats with four digs, three blocks, one ace serve and one set assist. Courtney Sees followed with 8 kills, 13 digs and three ace serves. McKenna Kocmich put up 28 set assists, 11 digs and one block. Reese Powers tallied two blocks, one kill and one set assist while Katie Gretschmann had 16 digs. Sam Brodeen contributed six kills, six digs and one ace serve for The Lady Pirates. Makayla Kopp added five digs and two ace serves and Reece Loewe came away with three kills and one block.

LADY PIRATES TRAVELED TO MENNO ON 10/22

The Lady Pirates (17-9) traveled to Menno on Friday night where they added another win on their record. Courtney Sees led the charge at the net with 11 kills, 10 digs and two ace serves. Tiffany Pelton followed with 10 kills, three blocks, seven digs and two ace serves. McKenna Kocmich put up 23 set assists, 11 digs, three ace serves and one block. Sam Brodeen tallied seven kills, 12 digs and one ace serve and set assist. Reece Loewe added 5 kills, one block and one dig. Reese Powers had three set assists, two digs and one block. Both Katie Gretschmann and Makayla Kopp contributed with digs and ace serves for the Lady Pirates.

WILD IBEX IN SOUTH DAKOTA? I DON’T THINK SO.

Ed Lemmon and Scotty Philip were the first South Dakota cowboys inducted into Oklahoma City’s National Cowboy Hall of Fame. That Lemmon was a colorful and industrious figure who personally knew most every famous or infamous figure of the west can be quickly ascertained by reading both his Belle Fourche Bee newspaper columns as compiled in Phyllis Schmidt’s book, The West as I Lived It, or Nellie Snyder Yost’s Boss Cowman. All of Lemmon’s memoirs are entertaining, and some may enter the realm of “tall tales.” His October 27, 1933 account, “Wild Game in 1880 Dakota” bears this out. I’ll quote Lemmon’s wild game account word for word.
