AVON CROWNS WATCHORN/GRETSCHMANN FOR HOMECOMING ROYALTY

On Monday, September 6 at 7:30 p.m., Avon School hosted the 2021 homecoming coronation in the gym. The queen candidates included Makayla Kopp, Katie Gretschmann, Reese Powers, Reece Loewe, and Tiffany Pelton. The king candidates consisted of Riley Rucktaeschel, Lincoln Thury, Justin Ferwerda, Eli Watchorn, and Keegan McAdaragh. Gretschmann and Watchorn were crowned queen and king, respectively.

MUSIC DEPARTMENT TAILGATE SET FOR OCTOBER

Every year the Avon Music Department puts on a tailgate supper at one of the home football games to raise money for the school year. This year the tailgate will be October 1. It will run from 5 to 7 p.m. when the team takes on Colome. They will be serving loaded baked potatoes, taverns, desserts, and drinks in the small white shed south of the concession stand at the field.

Avon Football Team Kicks off Season with 3-0 Start

This is a really big achievement for the Avon Pirate football squad. Although last year's record was two wins to six losses, this season the team is kicking into gear with an early season record of three wins to zero losses. “I am proud of the improvement that the players have made over the last year and how well we have played this season. I hope we can keep that effort going,” Tom Culver said.

As Homecoming week reaches the last day, students and community members come together for the Homecoming Parade. Construction on Main Street, however, forced Homecoming organizers to select a new parade route for the 2021 Homecoming Parade.

Avon Lady Pirates, coached by Tina Cameron and Connie Gretschmann, are currently 6-2. The Lady Pirates are currently 3-1 in the conference with wins over Parkston, ACDC, TDA, and a loss to Wagner.

RUNNERS COMPETE AT FREEMAN PUBLIC MEET

On September 15, 2021, the Avon Cross Country team participated in the Freeman Public meet which had over 300 runners in each division. The weather conditions were not what the team is used to. It was warm and windy, and for the course, they had to run a lot of gradual hills.
