MAXINE PECKA

Maxine Ann Pecka, formerly of Tyndall, passed away Tuesday, March 15 at Majestic Bluffs nursing home in Yankton, at the age of 84. She had been a resident there for two years. Her daughters, Karen and Michelle were both with her when she passed away. The nurses kept her comfortable and she went peacefully. A funeral service was held March 25 at Goglin Funeral Home in Tyndall. Burial was in the Tyndall Cemetery.

Jacob Allen Wages was born May 21, 1997 in Mitchell, SD. He is the son of Christa (Wages) and Dean DeJong and Keith Erickson. He died Saturday, March 26 at his home in Mitchell.

Susan Cahoy and Shelly Miller of Mitchell; Joel and Deb Tjeerdsma of Rogers, Minnesota; and Kevin and Charlene Tjeerdsma visited their mother, Cornelia Tjeerdsma on Saturday at the Assisted Living in Springfield. They moved all of Cornelia's things out of the North Point Apartments at Tyndall as she will no longer be living there.

2022 SDWCA STATE RESULTS FOR BON HOMME YOUTH WRESTLING

BHYW Placed 2nd overall in terms of total match points, with 739 points, falling behind only to West Central with 755 points. They were also at the top of the list for most pins in least amount of time. Below are some Avon stats from the State Tournament.

REPUBLICANS WIN IN STUDENT MOCK ELECTION

Avon High School had its first annual mock election on March 10. Keegan McAdaragh (Republican candidate), Haden Cahoy (Democratic candidate), and Riley Rucktaeschel (Reform candidate) voiced their political parties’ beliefs. There were 26 questions in total with five “zinger” questions. These questions had to be answered off of the candidates’ knowledge about their parties’ beliefs on the subject.

PIRATE TRACK SEASON BEGINS

Track season began for Avon High School and Junior High on Monday, March 14. Weather was favorable for the runners’ first week of practice, and they even got some time on the track.

AVON BASKETBALL PLAYERS EARN RECOGNITION

With the basketball season over, Conference Awards were announced for both the boys and girls teams. In the boys’ division, Lincoln Thury (12) and Landon Thury (10) made the Great Plains Conference Team and Eli Watchorn was selected for Honorable Mention. Landon was also selected for the LMVC 2nd team, and Lincoln was selected for the LMVC 3rd team.
