Alex and Becky Petrik are proud to announce the birth of their son Olliver Raymond. He was born on February 28th at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton. He weighed 7 lbs. 5 oz. and was 21 inches long.
Read more(LIT) Community Youth Group is hosting a Family Movie Night to take place Sunday, March 20 at 7:00 pm at Emmanuel Reformed Church, Springfield. The film to be viewed will be "Wonder" (2017). Synopsis: "Born with facial differences that, up until now, have prevented him from going to a mainstream school, Auggie Pullman becomes the most unlikely of heroes when he enters the local fifth grade. As his family, his new classmates, and the larger community all struggle to discover their compassion and acceptance, Auggie's extraordinary journey will unite them and prove you can't blend in when you were born to stand out." LIT members will be serving popcorn and refreshments and receiving free will donations to raise funds for their upcoming service trip to New York this summer.

On March 3 Avon cheerleaders and student body held a pep rally to send the girls basketball team off to the SoDak 16 in Huron against the DeSmet Bulldogs.

Going into post play, the Lady Pirates were third seed in Class B Region 6. The quarterfinal game took place in Avon on February 22 against the Marty Braves. The Lady Pirates ran away with a 72-29 win which set them up to play Platte-Geddes on a neutral court. The Panthers met up with the Lady Pirates in the Corn Palace for the Semifinal game. A 42-28 loss sent the Panthers home and the Lady Pirates to the SoDak 16 game! The number two seed DeSmet Bulldogs, and the fifteen seed Lady Pirates played in the Huron Arena on March 3. After a tough fight, the Lady Pirates fell just short with a final score of 44-57.
