Back pain can be disabling, not only in terms of employment but also in terms of social connections. This point was never more clear to me than when I saw Maria, a 56-year-old experiencing severe low back pain for nearly five years. The pain prevented her from standing or walking for more than five minutes at a time and had cost her the job she loved. Maria shared with me her one heart-wrenching goal; she wanted to hold her first grandchild, a six-month-old baby boy. Doing so had caused pain so intense it put her in bed for a full day afterwards.

While I’d like to recommend a Cabo deep sea fishing adventure with Captain Nicholas aboard his 30’ twin-engine “Mahi Mahi,” it is only right to look at the alternatives. To make a fair comparison, I’ll limit myself to southern climes.

Read moreA. Willis “Willie” Grant was born September 13, 1941 to Amos and Winnie Grant in Springfield and died May 9, 2021 at the age of 78 at Majestic Bluffs in Yankton. He joined 14 in all. He was preceded in death by all siblings except Velma, Nellie, Katy, Kenny and Pat. He attended Springfield school from kindergarten-12th grade with a perfect attendance. He trucked for Percy Coleman during the end of high school before a short stint in the Army. He became a cop for Springfield for 23 years and then went to work at CR Industries until it closed.
