South Dakota State Wrestling was held this past weekend in Rapid City. Among those participating was Brady Bierema of the Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon team. On Thursday Bierema started off the tourney on the mat facing off againstAndrew Even of Parkston where he tookthe win. He struggled Friday morning against Owen Hansen and suffered the loss. He then wrestled back hard to earn the his spot in the 3rd place wrestling match where he faced off against Porter Neugebaur of Parkston. There is no better place to celebrate America’s birthday than Mount Rushmore, surrounded by the beautiful Black Hills and in the presence of four iconic American leaders. Last year, we brought fireworks back to Mount Rushmore for the first time in more than a decade. The celebration was a tremendous opportunity to showcase our state to the world, and I am committed to continuing the celebration this year.

On February 16, Avon freshmen, junior high, and sixth-graders participated in Science Fair in the auxiliary gym. The Science Fair was open to the public from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Awards were held at 8:00 p.m. Each individual or group used a trifold board or poster board to put their information on, and each individual or group presented their board to the judges.
