Part of the job of being a middle school and high school counselor is offering student discussions as well as teaching students the skills that are needed to be able to cope with everyday life as they navigate the current world as adolescents. There are three different topics that will be the focus of this school year’s small groups. The topics include Pause & Reflect, G.I.R.L.S. and Resilience Alliance. The topics for the small groups were offered based off of the data that Andes Central school counselor Synorra Wilbur collects as well as staff member observations. In addition to the data, she also asked the middle school and high school students what topics they would be interested in talking about in a small group setting. Synnora also utilizes Facebook in order to receive feedback from parents/guardians on important topics that the school staff may not see or be aware of.

The fifth database available thru the South Dakota State Library at the Lake Andes Public Library that we will explore this week is “Gale E-Books”. This database can be logged in to from home as well as the library. If you are a history buff this is a database for you! “Overland Journeys: Travels in the West, 1800-1880” is described as thousands of stories of early settlers. Andes Central has switched over to a digital only yearbook format. The 2024-25 Fall semester is currently available for viewing on the school website. The plan moving forward is to release a fall and spring yearbook shortly after each semester ends. This one's a bit late as we are figuring things out as we go. Suggestions are welcome and can be directed to Mr. Winter, Yearbook Advisor. The digital yearbook can be found on the website under the Gallery.

Arthur Wissman Unit #150 recently sponsored the Americanism Essay and Poetry Contests. The essay theme was 'What America the Beautiful Means to Me' and the poetry theme was 'Honor Our Heroes.' Thank you students, parents, teachers, and everyone for honoring our service members and being patriotic and faithful to our country.
