It is a week where chapters share with their school peers what FFA is and the role that FFA plays in members’ everyday lives. The mission of FFA is to prepare future generations for the challenges of feeding the growing population of the United States through teaching various ag related topics including technology, science, business, food, etc. It is a week-long event that allows members to develop their potential for leadership, personal growth and career success in creative and innovative ways while involving their non-FFA peers. In honor of National FFA Week, the officers of the Andes Central FFA are sharing what FFA means to them and the role it plays in their lives.
Read moreMadeline Derry is a sophomore and the Vice President of Andes Central’s FFA chapter. As the vice-president, Madeline assists the president in her responsibilities and takes over the president’s duties if she is not able to be present. This is her third year as an FFA member. Madeline’s favorite part of FFA is competing in floriculture and being able to spend time with her friends who are also FFA members. During her years in FFA, Madeline has competed in agricultural issues, floriculture, creed speaking and agricultural sales team. FFA has strengthened Madeline in her public speaking and problem-solving skills.
Read moreCallie Bergin holds the officer position of reporter for the Andes Central FFA chapter. She has been a part of FFA for the past three years and is a sophomore. As the chapter’s reporter, Callie keeps the public informed about what the FFA chapter is doing and upcoming activities. Her favorite part of FFA is getting to go on trips/competitions with her friends and learning new things. During her time in FFA, Callie has participated in ag issues, creed speaking, natural resources and horse judging. FFA has taught Callie better communication skills and how to step out of her comfort zone even when it is scary.
Read moreFor senior FFA President, Emery Bultje, this is her fifth year participating in FFA. As the president she is responsible for presiding over the meetings, appointing committees, coordinating the chapter’s activities and is the chapter’s representative when it comes to public relations. Emery’s favorite FFA activity is participating in the spring Career Development Events (CDEs). Activities that she has participated in are Leadership Development Events (LDEs) in creed speaking, employment skills and ag issues; and CDEs including horse evaluation, livestock evaluation and floriculture. FFA has taught Emery how important it is to have her priorities in order and to be organized.
Read moreThe FFA chapter secretary position is held by sophomore, Marin Bultje. The secretary is responsible for making the agenda for the meetings as well as taking roll of members present and taking accurate minutes of each meeting. Marin has been an FFA member for the past three years. Her favorite part of FFA is traveling to and competing in the CDE competitions. During her years of membership, Marin has participated in creed speaking, ag issues, horse evaluation and natural resources. FFA has taught Marin to be able to speak in front of people and to have confidence when presenting her own ideas and work.
Read moreThe sentinel position in the Andes Central chapter is held by Luke Dangel. Luke is a junior and this is his fourth year as a member of the FFA. The duty of the sentinel is to keep order during the meetings. His favorite part of FFA are the bus trips to participate in CDEs. During his years as an FFA member, Luke has participated in employability skills, ag sales and livestock judging. FFA has helped Luke strengthen his public speaking skills.
