You may see or hear of the few occurrences that happen in Pierre that discredit our political process and take away from the real work we are doing. I chose to serve with respect. Politics can get ugly and not all opinions are the same. All our 35 districts are different makeups, different constituents; our opinions will be different. This is why we have a legislature, to serve the best interest of our district. Thank you for trusting me to serve you. I value your input and how bills will impact you so continue to reach out. AVON DRAMA CLUB ADVANCES TO STATE FESTIVAL

Avon High School Drama Club competed in the Region IV competition on January 22nd in Mitchell. They received 2nd place, which advanced them to the State One Act Festival. On Thursday, January 22nd, the One Act group went to Mitchell to perform their play called And. This play is about how everyone has life problems going on at the same time that we might not know about. The main problem in this play is about a young girl who was assaulted.

SHIRLEY HULL

Shirley Jean Hull, 84, of Laguna Niguel, CA, died on January 14, 2026. She was born on September 30, 1941, in Mitchell, the daughter of Jerry and Lorena (Pekas) Soulek. Shirley graduated from Lake Andes High School in 1959, as Class President and Valedictorian. She attended Southern State Teachers College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1962. Shirley received a Masters of Natural Sciences (Math & Physics) from University of South Dakota in 1967. A lifelong learner, she also completed studies in stochastic processes (a specific field of statistics) at the University of California, Irvine.
