Pierre, S.D.—The South Dakota Discovery Center (SDDC) is excited to announce a new exhibit now open to exhibit hall visitors in Pierre. 'Lunar Life: Destination Mars' is an immersive experience that demonstrates how humans will live on the moon as we prepare for a move towards Mars. It was developed by a group of students and faculty at South Dakota State University (SDSU) to engage young children with space exploration, the exhibit was made possible by the NASA South Dakota Space Consortium initiative. The grand opening event, in celebration of the Apollo 11 moon landing, for 'Lunar Life' is this Sunday, July 20, 2025, 10am-5pm. Join the fun, grab a NASA swag bag, and experience life on the moon!

Read moreArea youth have been given the opportunity to participate in the Sacred Hoops Basketball program.Sacred Hoops is an Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) program open to middle and high school students to play on regional travel teams and participate in competitive tournaments. It focuses on individual and team skills development and provides life lessons through basketball. Founded in 2018, it has become one of the largest basketball programs in South Dakota with over 700 athletes playing summer basketball. Allen Bertram, head women’s basketball coach at Mount Marty University, along with longtime Red Cloud coach Matt Rama and White River Athletic Director and basketball coach Eldon Marshall are instrumental in organizing the program.

Annually at the American Legion State Convention there is a Department One Year Post Yearbook History Contest. Alyssa took all newspaper articles that involved the Wagner Legion Post and incorporated them into a scrapbook that chronicled everything that the Post and their members did for the 2024-2025 year.
