Greer Post #11 American Legion

American Legion Greer Post #11 held its monthly meeting on July 21st, 2022 at the Post Home with 26 members in attendance. Commander Rados introduced John Crisman, who presented a very interesting story about his relative, Tony Skorpik. Skorpik was a WWII veteran who served in the Army Air Corps. He was shot down over Austria and was held as a prisoner of war for 10 months. Commander Rados thanked John for sharing his story and also thanked the cooks for the outstanding meal. Commander Clayton Rados then called the members to attention. Chaplain Donald Kotab gave the invocation, which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion was recited by all members. Commander Rados then called the meeting to order.

WAGNER TRIO PLAYS ON TABOR LEGION TEAM

The Tabor Legion Baseball team with a 19-7 record headed into Region play against Mt Vernon/Plankinton Corsica-Stickney on Tuesday, July 19 in Menno. Tabor was on the bottom side of a final 11-8 score, but battled their way back defeating Scotland Menno 11-10, Parkston 10- 6; and MVP Corsica-Stickney 10-1. Saturday’s championship action had the Tabor team facing Platte Geddes and taking control of that game in a 14-0 score. Tabor would again take on Platte Geddes, but a homerun with one on base in the bottom of the 7th put them on the downside of a final 4-2 score. Members of the team include (L-R) Nolan Dvorak, Dustin Honomichl, and Nolan Carda, all from Wagner.

TEENER BASEBALL

On Monday, July 18, Wagner’s 16U teener team traveled north of I-90 into McCook County to take on the Salem Cubs. This was a pitcher’s duel as Carter Cournoyer for Wagner and Carter Randall for the Cubs made quick work of most batters. Unfortunately for Wagner, Salem ended up with a bit more offense as they would come out on top by a score of 2-1.
