The seventh annual SDSU Energize Conference was held in Platte May 6-7. Wagner was well-represented with seven community representatives and one guest speaker. Locals attending the event were City Administrator Debbra Houseman, Wagner Area Growth Executive Director Margaret Doom, City Council President Brenda Jaton, Wagner Boys and Girls Club Health and Life Skills Coordinator Amy Doom, Fort Randall Federal Credit Union team members Jenni Dvorak and Jenna Weisser, Mayor Alyssa Mathis, and Jason Kuhlman. Dana Sanderson was a guest speaker for a breakout session entitled “605 Unity Jam ‘A Jamboree of Art & Music’ A Multi-Cultural Celebration.”

Read more3rd Annual Youth Turkey Hunt last weekend. We hosted eight youth hunters again this year, and were blessed with great weather for their hunt! Six of the eight were able to tag turkeys this year! It was another fun hunt for all the kids and guides! Braxton Burns won the .410 shotgun, Gunner Werkmeister won the Vortex Binoculars, Jeren Scheff won the tail fan mount. Volunteers were: Eric Brumbau, Taylor Kirchner, Dillon Bates, Jimmy Joe Wade Sr, Erik Cimpl, Mike Insko, Randy Rysavy, James Bechen, and Austin Brunken.

As I was beginning her physical exam she blurted out, “I know there is a breast mass but you’re not going to send me to any breast cancer doctor!” She had already decided to avoid standard treatment and her next comment explained why, “My aunt suffered because of awful unnecessary surgery and chemotherapy,” she said. I sensed there was no changing her mind and that meant trouble for my patient.

Read moreWednesday, May 14th found the Wagner Rotary members present at the club building with a few absences again. Rotarians are busy people, and this spring/summer is no exception. There were no guests for the day, so Song Leader Gerrit Juffer went right into the singing after we prayed our “Rotary Grace” prayer. It happened to be Rotarian Amanda Bechen’s birthday, so she was serenaded first with the Happy Birthday song followed by all members singing one verse of “Roll Rotary.”
