Wagner Communities That Care (CTC) sponsored SOC Day on May 8th. SOC stands for Strengthening Our Community. The coalition used socks, as a way to encourage the community to decrease social and personal stigma with mental health and well-being by talking openly, reducing isolation, and increasing social support. Working together we can build capacity for a self-healing community. Community members wore silly socks to show they care about our community’s mental health and well-being. Over 130 individuals were SOC’d. To SOC someone, is a positive act of sharing a pair of silly socks with someone to show your support for them and let them know that you care about their mental wellness and overall health and well-being. Wagner CTC would like to thank everyone who participated!

Willard and Darlene (Buchholz) Goehring were married March 20, 1960 at the Danzig Baptist Church, rural Avon. They have three children: Kim (Keith) Frey, Brian (Jessie) Goehring, Terry (Tracy) Goehring; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. In recognition of their 65th wedding anniversary, their family would like to honor them with an open house/card shower: Sunday, May 18 from 2-4 p.m. at the Menno Fire Hall, 302 S. 5th St. No gifts please. Read moreDuring the summer of 2020, local community members volunteered to serve on a newly formed board to manage the perpetual care and maintenance of the local ZCBJ Cemetery. At that time, research into the ZCBJ Cemetery was conducted and there no longer being a ZCBJ Lodge in Wagner, the closest lodge in Utica, SD did not want to be responsible for a cemetery in Wagner. This gave the community board the opportunity to reorganize as the Wagner Cemetery Association and to transfer the care of the ZCBJ Cemetery to the Wagner Cemetery Association. Since that reorganization of the Wagner Cemetery Association, work has been ongoing to transfer ownership of the property from ZCBJ to Wagner Cemetery. As of the cemetery board meeting on May 6, 2025, we are happy to officially announce that the cemetery is now “Wagner Cemetery”. The Wagner Cemetery is the portion from the old original cemetery in the middle to the southern edge. On the north end, St John the Baptist Catholic Church maintains their own cemetery as a separate entity.
