On Monday, November 13, seven WCS students made their way to Chamberlain to participate in the Region Oral Interpretation Contest, where the team took 1st place! Jennifer Barnett, Trenton Rolston, Jackson Rolston, Presley Slaba, Macee Stimpson, Jessica Barnett, and Taya Stone have practiced, worked hard, and performed their hearts out for the last couple of months preparing for Monday, as they attempted to vie their way to the state competition.

Read moreDecember 1st (Friday) has been set as the date for the annual Christmas Parade and Customer Appreciation Day in Lake Andes. Start now to plan a parade entry! “Christmas” is the theme this year for parade entries. Customer appreciation can be handled by each individual business and as they choose. The annual lighting of the Christmas Tree at the corner of 3rd Ave and Main Street is a highlight of the night. Drawings for hams and turkeys will also take place after the tree lighting. If you have a group that would like to organize a food sale or a craft fair that would be wonderful. Let’s make this the best Christmas Parade and Customer Appreciation Day to date!

Other chapters that competed at the District 4 competition included Bon Homme, Bridgewater- Emery, Burke-Gregory County, Chamberlain, Colome, Ethan, Kimball, McCook Central, Mitchell, Parkston, Platte-Geddes, Sandborn Central/Woonsocket, Scotland, Wagner and Winner. Riata competed in the Prepared Public Speaking event and placed third, which advances her to the State FFA LDE Competition to be held on December 3rd and 4th at the Monument in Rapid City.

During her high school years at Andes Central, Kendra has been involved in National Honor Society and has done community service with the National Honor Society. Pizza is Kendra’s favorite school lunch and Ms. Keizer is her favorite high school teacher.
Read moreAccording to Menning Excavating Inc., of Mitchell who are currently working on the installation of the new pump house southeast of Lake Andes, there is currently a delay in construction. Work on the project has halted as the company waits to hear back from the Yankton Sioux Tribe on a change that needs to happen with the voltage panel. The current voltage control panel that the company is supposed to install is not the correct voltage as it does not match the voltage of the existing panel that was placed by Northwestern Energy. There is no foreseeable completion date. The date will all depend on the decision made about the panel and the potential winter weather.
