Reminders that if children do not attend school because of illness the library policy states they cannot visit the library until going back to school. Also those children who have appts during the school day are not able to visit the library until after school hours.
Read moreAugust 10 marked the seventh annual “Best of the West” county showcase held in Wessington Springs. Thirty-three counties were invited to take part in the event. Eighteen counties paid their entry fee as well as some great sponsors including: Bruns Ranch, L4L Sheep Company, Farmers and MerchantsStateBank,Rolling Hills Vet, First Dakota National Bank, Great Plains Farm Mutual Insurance, Dakota Pro Air, Ravine Creek Ranch, Simplot, JP Livestock, NLC Ranch and American Bank & Trust. All monies were paid back out to the top five in each division in cash and prizes. The planning committee consisted of Kama Bruns, Marty and Mandy Michalek, Garrett Bischoff, Steve Zoss and Jim andAudraScheel.SweetGrass Eatery served a delicious concession stand and the barn was packed with spectators. Champions from each county wereinvitedtoattendtheshowcase after winning their local county 4-H shows. Dale Knode, Yankton,SD,evaluatedtherabbits, poultry. Andrew Weber evaluated the dairy divisions. Read moreWith the start of the new school the library is looking to develop programs which encourage reading at all ages. On the state level the South Dakota Library Association has a committee that nominates books for children in the following age ranges ; grades PreK-1 for Prairie Bud, grades 2-3 for Prairie Bloom, and grades 4-5 for Prairie Pasque. The library has invested in these 12 books for each age range and is currently developing an incentive program for those students who participate.
