Three Avon grapplers have joined the Bon Homme wrestling team. The Cavaliers have gotten their fair share of traveling at the beginning of the season with road trips to Dell Rapids; Pierce, Nebraska; and Elk Point.
Read moreAvon’s boys’ basketball team kicked off their season on December 11 in Avon against the Parkston Trojans. Parkston outscored the Pirates 60 to 31. As the team works to find their rhythm, they then traveled to Corsica to play the Corsica-Stickney Jaguars on December 14. Scoring struggles plagued the Pirates resulting in a loss of 22 to 58. Senior Lincoln Thury said, “As a team, we need to improve on shooting with confidence and rebounding the ball after every shot.”

This past week many girls continued to work hard to perform new skills and perfect skills they currently had in their routines. With some hair pulling, hair whipping excitement the girls had both some ups and downs throughout the competition. Above all, the young girls and the veteran gymnasts alike seem to be enjoying the thrill and pressure of the competition which can only build the level at which they compete. Please come out to watch these girls in all their glory at the home meets.

Read moreThe Red Raider Boys opened their season against a good Winner team that won 18 games last year and made the state tournament. The Red Raiders played a good first quarter offensively but could not stop Winner’s offense falling behind 12-18. The Warriors shot the ball very well in the second period putting up 28 points and expanding their lead to 46-23 at half time. Wagner played their best quarter coming out of the half scoring 14 points and allowing 16 making the score 37-62 heading into the fourth. Winner played good defense and held Wanger to 2 points in the final period. The final score was Winner 72 Wagner 39. Dustin Honomichl led the Red Raiders with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Toby Zephier added 12 points and 8 rebounds. Daelynn Red Buffalo scored 7 points, Matt Link, Niko Drapeau and Calvin Wright each added 2 points. Some positives for Wagner in the game were that they went 8 for 8 from the foul line and only committed 7 fouls the entire game. Wagner hosts Irene Wakanda on Tuesday night.
