Some twenty-five schools competed in the Platte Cross Country Meet on Saturday, September 25. The Andes Central/Dakota Christian Thunder Girls Team placed 4th out of six full teams. Team scores were Hanson 16, Gregory 21, Platte-Geddes 31, AC/DC 37, Freeman Academy/Marion 40, and Burke 56. Lexi Schoenfelder was the top finisher for the Thunder finishing in 6th (22:27), Anna DeHaan earned 15th place (23:14), and Sonya Hansum came in at 28th (27:02). Jada Koerner of Freeman Academy Marion was the overall winner in 20:47.

The Lady Pirates traveled to Tyndall on Saturday, September 18 where they faced five teams at the Cavalier Clash. Their first match went into 3 sets against the Beresford Watchdogs. The Watchdogs took the first set 25-17, but the Lady Pirates won the following two 20-25 and 20-25.

This is a really big achievement for the Avon Pirate football squad. Although last year's record was two wins to six losses, this season the team is kicking into gear with an early season record of three wins to zero losses. “I am proud of the improvement that the players have made over the last year and how well we have played this season. On September 15, 2021, the Avon Cross Country team participated in the Freeman Public meet which had over 300 runners in each division. The weather conditions were not what the team is used to. It was warm and windy, and for the course, they had to run a lot of gradual hills.

Avon hosted Wagner on Tuesday, September 14, where they put up a good fight, but fell short to the Raiders in four close sets. Wagner won the first two sets; 21-25 and 22-25. The Lady Pirates came back with a 7 point win in the third set with a score of 18-25. They came short by 2 points in the forth and final set; 25-23.
