Read moreAvon’s 18U softball team traveled to Scotland on Sunday, June 5 for a doubleheader as part of Scotland Sports Day. In game one Avon unleashed the bats for 11 hits scoring runs in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th innings. Avon was led by Lydia Yost with 3 hits – including a double and 2 RBI. Katie Gretschmann, Sam Brodeen, and Reece Loewe each had 2 hits; with Brodeen and Loewe both having a double and 3 RBI. Emma Yost had a hit and a RBI and Kinley Doom singled in the game. Lydia Yost pitched for Avon, struck out 8, walked 2, and got the win.

Read moreFor nearly 100 years, the Burlington train route meandered through the Black Hills. The train transported people, freight, mail, and livestock from town to town throughout the area. The original construction of the train route began in 1888, and within ten months the route was completed all the way to Edgemont. However, in the mid-1980s the train traffic came to a stop and the railroad was abandoned and ultimately removed.

Read moreThe 2022 Girls Class B State Golf Meet was held Monday, June 6 and Tuesday, June 7 at Heart Ranch Golf Course just outside of Rapid City. Sophomore, McKenna Kocmich was Avon High’s only state tournament qualifier this season after her 9th place finish at the Region Tournament. The Heart Ranch Golf Course proved to be a tough test for the class B girls golfers, along with severe weather that delayed the tournament each of the 2 days. Kocmich was able to navigate the course for a two day total of 196, which placed her tied for 28th in a field of 100 golfers.
