RUNNERS COMPETE AT FREEMAN PUBLIC MEET

On September 15, 2021, the Avon Cross Country team participated in the Freeman Public meet which had over 300 runners in each division. The weather conditions were not what the team is used to. It was warm and windy, and for the course, they had to run a lot of gradual hills.

Homecoming Week, September 6-10, was filled with excitement at the Avon School. Students and staff were busy with many activities including dress up days, the poster contest, talent show, and the parade. The points from the posters, talent show, and dress up days would be added together to award an overall winner.

WHAT I REMEMBER MOST IS THE SILENCE

She was 19 years old, just starting her first semester of college. She had been transferred to our level 1 trauma center, intubated and in a medically induced coma. I was a third-year medical student, being introduced to the realities of medicine. Our team was clustered around her in the procedure room adjacent to the ICU while my senior resident inserted the central line we would use to quickly administer large volumes of medicine and fluids.
