Globally, the year 2020 has been one of the hardest years for people. With the arrival of 2021 many people have made new year’s resolutions. According to history.com, resolutions date back 4,000 years ago to the ancient Babylonians who made promises to the gods to prepay their debts and return borrowed objects. Failure to follow through would cause them to “fall out of the gods’ favor.” If people had that strong of motive, they might keep the resolution they make.

VACCINE COMES TO TOWN

As many people know, COVID is and has been a very big problem in our everyday lives. At the end of 2020 there were two available vaccines, Pfizer/BioNTech and the Moderna. Since the state controls what vaccine is sent where, Avon does not know which they will be receiving. Avon will receive their share of the vaccine somewhere between two weeks and two months. Here at Avon School, just the staff will be available to receive a vaccine, but they will have to go to a clinic to get their shot. Most people will go to Tyndall, but Wagner and other surrounding clinics may have them available.

America is grappling a difficult legacy. Our society was built by the blood and sweat of slaves, on land previously occupied by Native Americans. When we won independence, only white male property owners were fully enfranchised. Enslaved peoples were not fully counted under the constitution. Married women had no legal identity.

Letter to the editor 1/5/21 Our Supreme Court recently rejected a bid by the Texas attorney general to rule on the fraudulent ballots counted in the recent presidential election. Why did our highest court decide to “sit on their pens” and not take the case? They were afraid of the anarchy, looting, and burning that would follow in our major cities if the election were overturned.
