On Thursday, May 26, Wagner took 15 athletes to compete in the state track and field meet in Sioux Falls. Two relay teams would compete on this day. First up was the boys 4x800 team made up of Glen Cournoyer, Henry Hayward, Lael Young, and Riley Roberts. This event was split into two heats of 12 teams each. These boys would run in the first heat and run their best time all year clocking in at 8:42.68. They ran a very good race but unfortunately that would only place them 14th overall, which was actually where they were seeded coming into the day.

Oscar Bernie, 24, of Springfield, died Saturday, May 28, 2022 at MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center in Sioux City, IA, the result of a motorcycle accident. Funeral services were Friday, June 3 at the White Swan Community Center in Lake Andes. Burial was in St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery in Marty. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner was in charge of arrangements.

John Bruguier, 60, of Marty, died Friday, May 27, 2022 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton. Funeral services were Wednesday, June 1 at the Ihanktonwan Community Center in Marty. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner was in charge of arrangements.

A year and a half ago, the 605 Unity Team created a special event for the Wagner area to help bring our community closer together and to focus more on cooperation and caring about each other. The event was created to use what we all like as the way to take the first step. This step involved using art, culture, food, dance and music as the center of the idea. We wanted to take what we already knew about our community and use that to help focus upon the importance of cultural appreciation, understanding, acceptance and cooperation as it will help determine what our communities future will look like.
