JADEN PETERS WATCH CONTINUES IN DAKOTA VALLEY

Jaden’s first competition in over a week took place in Dakota Valley on Tuesday, April 27. Once again, the vaulting conditions were not ideal. The event was delayed for approximately an hour to wait for rain to pass through. When Jaden finally got to vault the evening’s twilight was settling in and with the pole vault set up in Dakota Valley being behind the stands, it was getting quite dark and it had been a long wait. But he cleared 14’ on his first attempt and then skipped to 15’ and cleared that with relative ease as well. His first attempt at 15’6 looked good, but he wasn’t quite able to make it over. The second attempt wasn’t all that close. On his final attempt he dug in and things looked good until his descent when he clipped the bar with. . . well, he wasn’t quite sure. The Sierra de la Laguna Mountains separate the Sea of Cortez from the Pacific Ocean, and other than what has been developed, the very dry terrain is desolate brush and cactus. The temperatures ranged from the low 80’s during the day to 70’s at night. The wind, except on the water, was negligible.

DEAR MOMS, I SEE YOU

This has been an exhausting year for moms. Last spring, we had no idea we would still be dealing with this pandemic a year later. It presented difficult decisions, such as in-person school or remote learning, how to work from home while caring for children, or how to pay the bills without work, when to let children visit their grandparents, what to do for birthdays and holidays. Regardless of the decision made, it seemed someone somewhere was judging our choice. But I want you to know, I see you every day doing the best you can.
