JANIS AND THE MT. VERNON VENOM TAKE 2ND PLACE

Madilyn Janis of Lake Andes has taken her love of fastpitch softball and joined a SD traveling team, the Mt. Vernon 14U Venom. Madilyn first began playing with the Venom last year as Wagner did not make it to the state softball tournament. As a result, Madilyn became a pick-up player for the Mount Vernon Venom for state softball. She really enjoyed her time with the Venom and as there are no local fastpitch softball teams at the 16U or 18U levels, she decided to join the Venom again this year. The Mount Vernon Venom play in the Parkston 18U league and are a 16U tournament team.

LAKE ANDES KICKS OFF FARMERS MARKET SEASON

The Lake Andes Farmers Market held their first market of the season this past Tuesday, June 18th. The farmers market is sponsored by the Lake Andes Food and Wellness Council. The Lake Andes Food and Wellness Council was first able to begin this community program through a Connected Community grant.

Update on Rail to Trail: Tyndall to Platte Two plus months ago, an engineering firm was chosen to do a feasibility study. I called Pierre and was told there has been a delay in starting the study due to an audit concern. There is no definite timeline on when the study will start. The friend’s group has only raised about one third of the $45,000 needed to match the grant from the transportation department (federal gas tax money). This money is only for the study, not for any construction.

AMERICAN LEGION RIDE 605 RIDERS

The Wagner American Legion Post hosted the American Legion Ride 605 riders on Monday, June 10th. The riders were welcomed and enjoyed lunch with several Wagner American Legion members and several of Wagner’s own American Legion riders. After giving the riders a nice break filled with great conversation and lunch, the Wagner American Legion presented the organization with a $500 donation.

Funeral services for Arlen Thomas Kucera, 89, of Lake Andes, will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 19 at the Wagner Community Church in Wagner. Burial will be in the ZCBJ Cemetery, with military honors. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM, Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at the church. Peters Funeral Home of Wagner is in charge of arrangements.
