WCS STUDENTS ATTEND YANKTON MANUFACTURING ACADEMY

FLOODING IMPACTS BON HOMME COUNTY

This past week, Bon Homme Countywashithardwithconstant rain to the amount of anywhere between 2 and 8 inches of throughout thecounty.Thiscausedseveral areas to flood and have running water over roads. One of the several areas that was closed due to flooding was Highway 37 at the Emanuel Creek Bridge. The Bon Homme County Emergency Management Manager, Eric Elsberry, reports the county currently has 300 sites they are evaluating for flood damage. He is currently out working and beginning to assess those sites. For latest updates on road closings and openings please follow the Bon Homme County Facebook page.

GARY LOUKOTA

Gary Wayne Loukota, 75, of Springfield left this earthly world while surrounded by his family at his home in Springfield. He joined his Heavenly Father Friday, June 21, 2024. A Celebration of Gary’s Life will be Friday, June 28 at 2:00 p.m. at the Emmanuel Reformed Church in Springfield. Inurnment will be at a later date in the South Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Sioux Falls. Visitation will be at the church Thursday from 5-7 p.m. Peters Funeral Chapel of Springfield is in charge of arrangements.

'OPEN CLASS SHOW' TO BE HELD AT ACHIEVEMENT DAYS

The Annual Open Class Show will be held during the Bon Homme County 4-H Achievement Days. If you enjoy making projects or have a hobby and would like toshowoffyourwork,hereis your chance! You can enter a variety of items to show. Anything from painting, quilting, baking, canning, collections, photography, gardening and so much more! Our Achievement Days schedule has changed slightly this year, and all exhibits will be judged on Thursday evening, August 1st. All exhibits should be entered Thursday, August 1st, by 5:00 p.m. at the 4-H Centerandmustgobyguidelines in the South Dakota State Fair Book.

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT – COMMUNITY BANK OF AVON

This month’s Avon Chamber of CommerceBusinessSpotlight is on the Community Bank of Avon. The Community Bank of Avon first began operating in 1914 under the name of Bank of Kingsburg. The bank was chartered by Thomas C. Pier in Kingsburg. Pier got his start in banking working in banking in Ravinia. The Community Bank then moved to Avon in 1933 as the town of Kingsburg began to wither. Another reason for the bank’s change in location is that at the time, Avon did not haveanotheroperatingbankand Pier wanted to better be able to serve the banking needs of the public. The Community Bank of Avon has a past history of and is currently a family ran business. The bank is a stock corporation that is owned by the extended Pier family as its shareholders. Pier family members also serve as Officers and Directors for the bank.
