The bill was heavily debated and supported by the State’s Attorneys, the Sheriff’s Association, and the attorney general. I supported the bill to protect the residents of South Dakota from violent crimes. The Tripp and Menno High School senior government classes and several homeSchool groups came to see us in action, as always, it’s a joy to meet thoseofourdistrict.Icannot believethereisonlyoneweek left. Avon 15 4 9 14 12 54 ACDC 10 8 14 10 6 49 Avon Pirates hosted the Andes Central/Dakota Christian Thunder team on February 27 where the Pirates defeated the Thunder in overtime to take the win 54-49.

Every year the American Legion Auxiliary does an Americanism poem and essay contest. This year's poem theme was 'Thanking our Veterans for our Freedom' and grades 3rd through 6th were eligible to participate. This year's essay title was 'What does patriotism mean to you?' Only our 4th graders under the guidance of their language arts teacher, Mrs. Stephanie Hill participated. We appreciate all the students that took the time to participate, and their hard work representing Wagner so well with your creativity and sharing their thoughts about what Americanism means to you. The winners of the poem and essay contest will now be sent on to Districts. Poems and more photos on page 4.
Read moreThe Wagner 7/8 boys’ basketball teams travelled to Parkston on Friday, February 17, for a pair of games against the Trojans. In the 7th grade game, the Raiders were without a couple of their regular starters and it showed as they struggled offensively for most of the game. After falling behind in the first quarter, the Raiders settled down some in the 2nd and managed to keep the game close at half as they trailed 16-9. Baskets were hard to come by in the second half as they Raiders just couldn’t get anything to fall. The Trojans were able to pull away in the second half to defeat the Raiders by a score of 37-11. The loss dropped the Raiders record to 9-5 on the season. Leading scorers were Cruise Koupal with 7 and Jacob Kotab and Beau Otte each added 2.
