Katherine ( Kathy) Eve Winckler, 63, of Lake Andes, passed away at home in Lake Andes on Thursday, September 29, 2022. Funeral services were Saturday, October 1 at the Cedar Presbyterian Church, rural Lake Andes with burial in the Cedar Presbyterian Cemetery. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner was in charge of arrangements.

Read moreTo its owner, the FFA jacket is a physical reminder of the personal accomplishments achieved through the organization - a symbol of commitment and dedication for all who wear the corduroy. This fall, the SD FFA Foundation celebrated 15 years of the Blue Jacket Program and awarded its 3000th FFA jacket to a member. In October, 404 South Dakota FFA members from 81 chapters, will receive their own FFA jackets - carrying forward that long-standing tradition of pride, dignity and honor. Jackets were sponsored by various individuals through the SD FFA Foundation program, welcoming new members into the fabric of FFA. FFA members filled out the Blue Jackets Bright Futures FFA Jacket Program application, answering short essay questions about their FFA experience and goals, competing to earn their own FFA jacket instead of purchasing one. 2021 recipient from Wagner was Madison Robertson sponsored by Nathan and Tiffany Sanderson.

Read moreOn Saturday, October 1st, a group of six Wagner Oral Interp kids traveled to their first competition in Winner. The team came away with six Superior awards and two Excellent awards. Superior is the top award, followed by Excellent, and then Good, so this is an exciting start to our season! Jenny Barnett won two superiors: Serious 'Multiple Personality Murder,” and Poetry 'To This Day.” Trenton Rolston won a superior in his humor piece, 'Afterlife,” along with a superior in his duet with Macee Stimpson, '(Un)comfortable Silence.” Presley Slaba earned a superior in storytelling with her rendition of 'Unbroken,' as well as an excellent in her duet with Jackson Rolston, 'Abbott & Costello.” Jackson also received a superior for his humor piece, 'Thank You for Texting.” The Reader's Theater, consisting of Charley Kocer, Trenton Rolston, Jackson Rolston, Presley Slaba, and Macee Stimpson also received an excellent award for 'Barnyard Slam.” Libby Renbarger and Cassity Kerner are in their first year leading the well-established program, with guidance from Mieke Slaba. On Saturday, October 8, the Wagner team will be on the road early to head to Harrisburg for the Tiger Tournament.
