WAGNER RAIDERS CROSS COUNTRY STARTS SEASON

The 2022 Wagner Cross Country Season started off with a bang! The word 'bang' is one that can be taken 100% literally. Yes, it was a crazy weather morning at the opening season Mitchell Cross Country Meet on Saturday, August 27th. The Girl's JV got to start their 3K race on time as this was before the thunder and lightning started. However, by the time the last runners from that race were coming in, the weather took a turn forcing a weather delay. In hopes to continue the race, they planned on running in 30 minutes once the weather had passed. But the weather was not agreeable, and the teams had to wait for three consecutive weather delays.

A FAVORITE REEL AND SHOTGUN AND AN UPDATE ON MY HEALTH

Some years ago Jerry Hnetynka and I hired guide, Dave Williamson for a days musky fishing on Minnesota’s West Battle Lake. Dave supplied the lures, rods and reels, and I became acquainted with the Shimano Calcutta big casting reel- the finest fishing reel I have ever used. Though I don’t like spending a lot of money on equipment, I bought myself a Shimano Calcutta. That reel has proven invaluable in recent years and I look at it as a precision instrument. That night Jerry and I took trophy muskies, myself using that Calcutta reel.

ANDES CENTRAL/DAKOTA CHRISTIAN CROSS COUNTRY SEASON BEGINS

The Andes Central/Dakota Christian Thunder Cross Country team competed in their season opening meet on Saturday, August 27 at the Mitchell Invitational Meet. After a delay due to lighting in the area, both the boys and girls varsity raced together over 4000 meters. This first meet is run 1000 meters shorter that the standard 5K distance. Running in the Boys’ Varsity Race was Tony Hansum who placed 40th out of the ninety boy runners with a time of 17:10. For the girls, Lexi Schoenfelder was 5th (17:49), followed by Anna DaHaan 6th (17:52), and Eilie De-Haan 17th (19:42).

School is back in session, but don’t forget that the Library continues to be open each day 1-5 and 1-7 on Wednesdays. The library is here to help with some daily needs such as sending an email, checking your emails, completing a job application, checking out reading material for enjoyable reading, researching a recent medical diagnosis for yourself or someone you care for, practicing to take the drivers license test, take classes on line to complete your GED, or college classes, helping your child to practice reading skills, check out a classic DVD to enjoy during your leisure time. As you can see the library has something for everyone.

ROAD CLOSING DUE TO ROAD CONSTRUCTION

South Dakota Department of Transportation has begun dirt-work by the North Point Campground entrance. Work will begin on the bridge structure replacement and roadway reconstruction on U.S. Highway 10 near the recreation area on September 6, 2022. The DOT plan to complete a bridge structure replacement, and work on approach grading, spot grading, pipe work, interim grading and intersection realignment. The DOT is not allowed the close the road and remove the surface until then.
