AVON 18U SOFTBALL RESULTS

Avon’s 18U softball team traveled to Scotland on Sunday, June 5 for a doubleheader as part of Scotland Sports Day. In game one Avon unleashed the bats for 11 hits scoring runs in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th innings. Avon was led by Lydia Yost with 3 hits – including a double and 2 RBI. Katie Gretschmann, Sam Brodeen, and Reece Loewe each had 2 hits; with Brodeen and Loewe both having a double and 3 RBI. Emma Yost had a hit and a RBI and Kinley Doom singled in the game. Lydia Yost pitched for Avon, struck out 8, walked 2, and got the win.

WEE PEES, PEE WEES AND MIDGETS TAKE THE FIELD

The Wee Pees and Pee Wees are coached by Joe Sees and Whitney Podzimek and the Midgets are coached by Ted Wonnenberg. The Wee Pees Tourney will be held in Avon on June 25. The first round of playoffs for the Pee Wees begins on June 23rd and June 24th for the Midgets.

WITH LUCK, JOHN BRUGUIER MIGHT HAVE CHANGED HISTORY

On occasion editors permit me to stray from hunting and fishing to discuss my favorite topic - regional history. Such is the case with John Bruguier. John Bruguier’s mother was a Yanktonai. His father, Theophile Bruguier, was a Canadian Frenchman born near Montreal in 1813. Theo eventually settled near the mouth of the Big Sioux River on the Iowa side, and in 1855 received government contracts to furnish supplies to the Indians living along the Missouri. A French settlement grew near the mouth of the Big Sioux, and most of these Frenchmen took Indian wives.
