Read moreThe Lady Raiders hosted the Scotland/Menno Trappers last Thursday night in girls basketball action. Wagner’s shooting would start off kind of cold the first half getting quite a few good looks but the ball just wouldn’t fall through the cylinder. Defensively the Raiders would continue to shut down their opponents allowing 8 total first half points to take a 30-8 lead into the half. Wagner would allow 8 points in the third quarter but then shut out the Trappers in the 4th to claim a 66-16 victory. Ashlyn Koupal recorded a triple-double with 28 points, 12 boards, 10 blocks, 5 steals and 4 assists. Mateya Bruguier would hit the double figure mark with 10 points, 4 assists, 2 boards, and 2 steals. Hayden Knudsen would add 9 points, 3 boards, 4 steals and dish out 3 assists. Hannah Holzbauer and Braxton Nedved would each finish with 5 points. Hannah would grab 5 boards and dish out 2 assists while Braxton would grab 6 boards and dish out 3 assists. TyShay Medicine Bear would chip in 4 points off the bench. Ravyn Medricky would finish with 3 points, 8 boards, 2 assists and 2 steals. Mila Hopkins would round out the scoring with 2 points, 2 boards and 2 assists. Overall the Raider would shoot 26-54 for 48% while holding the trappers to 7-40 for 18%. Wagner once again dominated the glass with a 39-17 margin while committing 13 turnovers compared to 23 from the Trappers. “We started off slow the first half missing lots of good looks. We shot only 41% the first half so we did a much better job of finishing shots in the second half to bring that up to 48%. Defensively we did another great job of challenging and contesting shots, limiting them to 1 shot per possession. It was nice to see a lot of the younger kids get thrown into the fire tonight. Great opportunities for them to see what they have to do to play even at a higher level. We now enter the last 1/3 of the regular season. Need to keep getting a little better every game.”

Read moreThe Lady Raider traveled to Corsica to take on the Jaguars last Tuesday night in girls basketball action. Corsica- Stickney would jump out to an early 14-8 lead after the first quarter. Wagner’s defense would overwhelm the Jaguars the rest of the game allowing them to only score 15 points total the last three quarters of the game where the Raiders would pump in 51 in the final 3 quarters of play. Wagner would shoot 23-52 from the field for 44% while the Jaguars would shoot 12-57 for 21%. Wagner would dominate on the glass with a 48-21 advantage. The Raiders would dish out 18 assists and turn the ball over 13 times compared to 9 from the Jaguars. Ashlyn Koupal would lead all scorers with 25 points, 24 rebounds which ties the school record with her aunt Mandy. She would also have 4 blocks and dish out 4 assists. Braxton Nedved would hit double figures with 12 points, 4 boards and 2 assists. Ravyn Medricky was so close to a dou-ble-double posting 10 points, 9 boards, and 3 assists. Hayden Knudsen would tally 7 points, 2 boards and 2 steals. Clarah Soukup would add 3 points off the bench while Hannah Holzbauer would finish with 2 points, 6 boartds, and dish out a team high 7 assists. “Another really good opponent who was playing great. We were firing on almost every cylinder tonight. We needed to control the glass and we out rebounded them by 27. We needed to keep them out of the paint and we did that after the first quarter. We only let 2 people score the second half which is phenomenal team defense. We also didn’t score the first 3 minutes of the second half which we have to be able to be a little more efficient on the offensive end. We got some good looks just didn’t hit but then put up 29 the rest of the way and got running clock on a team that was 9-2 and has beat some really good teams. We had a lot of girls do all the little things that really don’t show up on stat sheets and that’s why the margin of victory was what it was. Great team win against a very good opponent!”
