RECOGNIZING HATTIE FLYNN FOR OVER 50 YEARS OF DEDICATION

Hattie Flynn has been a staple with the Announcer since 1973, giving the paper 50 years of service in one way or another. It all began with her sons friendship with the Mr. Birch's son. Mr. Birch, owned the Announcer at the time and asked Hattie if she would like a job working for the Announcer and Hattie accepted the position.

Greer Unit #11, American Legion Auxiliary

Greer Unit #11 American Legion Auxiliary held their monthly meeting November 16 at the Post Home with 12 members and one guest present. The meeting was called to order by President Linda Youngbluth. Chaplain Margie Stone read the opening prayer. The Pledge of Allegiance and American Legion Auxiliary Preamble were recited in unison. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved after a correction. The treasurer’s report was given and approved. Motion was made by Margie Stone and seconded by Barbara Kucera to pay the bill that was presented. Motion carried. Membership chairman, Barbara Kucera reported that we have 64 paid members. The membership goal is 85. Correspondence was read from the District President, Karen Richelieu. Thank yous were read from the State VA and R. chairman for the donation for items sent for the Veteran’s gift shop. Community service chairman, Margie Stone, reported appropriate cards had been sent. Motion was made by Marlene Stone and seconded by Barbara Kucera to purchase stamps. Motion carried.

CLARENCE 'BUZZ' DURHAM - AVID HORSEMAN

At 94 years young, Clarence “Buzz” Durham can still be found outside everyday working with and taking care of his animals. Buzz still has a few cows and takes care of six horses. His love of horses dates back to his toddler years when he was put on a horse for the first time. A love like no other formed in those early years and it can still be seen today in the way he tends to and handles the horses in his life.

DANA SANDERSON PRESENTED FRIENDS OF EDUCATION AWARD IN CELEBRATION OF NATIONAL EDUCATION WEEK

Wagner Community School celebrated National Education Week November 13-17th. Dana Sanderson was recognized as the recipient of the Friends of Education Award. Dana has been involved with the Build Dakota Scholarshp for seniors and organizes a community potluck for new WCS staff who have moved to town at the beginning of the school year. Dana also assists with classes for high school students preparing to take the ACT test. Along with volunteering within the schools, he helps to bring together our community with the 605 Unity Jam. A sincere thank you to Dana for your commitment to our school and students.

WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD?

The Wagner senior students are preparing to leave high school in just a few months and move on to their future. Wagner students have received a good education and have had a variety of great opportunities to help them prepare for what comes after graduation. Many of these students may have done a lot of research about training and career options and had some great advice and support from family, teachers and friends in their decision making process. However, some may not. Some students, may still have some big questions about their future.
