The Avon Swim Team wrapped up their season at the James River Valley League Championship Meet on July 16-17 in Platte. This year Avon had 64 swimmers (ages 4-18) compete, which is an all-time high for the team. For the 5th year in a row, the team earned first place in team points! Every swimmer helped to earn points for this team award and many swimmers has personal best times at the two-day meet! It focuses on individual and team skills development and provides life lessons through basketball. Founded in 2018, it has become one of the largest basketball programs in South Dakota with over 700 athletes playing summer basketball. Allen Bertram, head women’s basketball coach at Mount Marty University, along with longtime Red Cloud coach Matt Rama and White River Athletic Director and basketball coach Eldon Marshall are instrumental in organizing the program.
