SIX GIRLS ADVANCE TO STATE WRESTLING

Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon will take six girls to the state wrestling tournament this Thursday-Friday-Saturday, February 26-27-28 at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls. Two eighth graders, Sydney Johnson-115 is 33-28, Harper Kracht-125 is 29-17; Juniors Jasmine Ruelas-Hertz-120 is 33-5, and Hadlee Kracht-130 is 42-10; Seniors Britney Rueb-135 is 25-1, and Hope Kemnitz-190 is 33-13. The first round is Thursday at 10:00 with the second session (quarter finals) at 4:00. On Friday wrestling begins at 9:30 with two rounds of wrestlebacks and continues at 3:00 with the semi-finals and another two rounds of wrestlebacks. The placement matches (3rd-5th-7th) will be Saturday morning at 10:00 with the championship matches at 1:00. The girls tournament is one class and the boys tournament has Class B and Class A. By Jim Kocer, assistant coach With six wrestlers in the finals (four of which were champions), Bon Homme/ Scotland/Avon finished in third place at the Region 3 Girls Wrestling Tournament in Mitchell on February 20. Champions were Jasmine Ruelas-Hertz-120, Harper Kracht-125, Hadlee Kracht-130, and Hope Kemniz-190, with Sydney Johnson-115 and Britney Rueb-135 both finishing second. Tatum Palsma-100 finished in sixth place. Tatum Palsma-100 had a bye, won a 9-1 decision over McKyla Linke (Mitchell), lost to eventual runner-up and third-rated Shaylee Speck (Pierre) by fall in 1:19, lost to Sep Jade Lyric Paw Gay (Huron) 5-1, and in a consolation match lost to Jadelynn McCall (Winner) by fall in 4:15 to finish sixth. The seventh grader finished her season with an 18-23 record. Sydney Johnson-115 had a bye, won by fall over Remington Edwards (Todd Co./ White River) in 2:39, won by fall over second-seed Chevelle Brakke (Pierre) by fall in 5:28, and in the championship lost to eighth-rated Jasmine Maas (Aberdeen) by fall in 1:09 for second place. Jasmine Ruelas-Hertz-120 won all four matches by fall: over Addyson Waldrop (Miller/Highmore-Harold) in 1:37, over Kennley Sedlacek (Burke/Gregory) in 4:48, over Gemma Stangeland (Pierre) in :49, and in the championship over sixth-rated Danny Borja (Mitchell) in 1:26 for her second consecutive region championship. Harper Kracht-125 won all four matches by fall over Jayda Hoffman (Aberdeen) in 3:04, over Siya Peterson (Miller/Highmore-Harold) in :32, over Cameron Larson (Pierre) in 3:28, and in the championship over Moo B Say (Huron) in 2:43 for first place. Hadlee Kracht-130 won by technical fall over Aerika Janssen (Lyman) in 3:14, won by fall over Imani Pippens (Aberdeen) in :55, and in the championship won by fall over sixth-rated Mohrgan Werdel (Miller/Highmore-Harold) in 1:29 for first place. Britney Rueb-135 had a bye, won by fall over Amanda Blue Coat (Cheyenne Eagle Butte) in 1:21, won by fall over Mila Hobbs (Aberdeen) in 1:21, and in the championship lost by medical forfeit to second-rated Lexie Hillmer (Pierre) for second. Hope Kemnitz-190 had a bye, won by fall over Gwen Leading Fighter (Todd Co./ White River) in 1:01, and in the championship won by fall over Meleane Mounga (Aberdeen) in 4:32 for her second consecutive region championship. Bailey Kemnitz-140 was unable to wrestle due to an arm injury on February 10. It was the second year for girls regions with Aberdeen Central taking the team title-228 points, followed by Pierre T.F. Riggs-193, Bon Homme/Scotland/ Avon third with 161.5, Madison-125, Huron-111, Miller/Highmore-Harold-101, Todd County/White River-74, Mitchell-65.5, Ethan/Parkston-52.5, Burke/Gregory-40, Chamberlain-39, Wagner-34, Lyman-26, Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes-21, Winner-18.5, and Cheyenne Eagle Butte-0.
