The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) operates a fleet of vehicles around the country to provide free transportation for veterans with VA approved medical appointments. For local veterans, the van is driven by volunteers and coordinated through the Charles Mix County Veterans Service Office.

10 YEARS AGO 2015 Harvest started with silage chopping in the area. Randy Berndt sworn in as new council member. Sandy Pier and Dave Roth had a fender bender. The Lady Pirates had their first win of the season in Tripp.

From the Files of the Lake Andes Wave 10 YEARS AGO 2015 With the $7,500 award Wellmark presented the City of Lake Andes with, they officially finished building the playset portion of the new park. The Class of 1959 gathered at the Lakeside Motel for a reunion.

The September 10th meeting of the Wagner Rotary Club was held at the club headquarters in the Barkl Building despite a power outage that had affected the northwestern part of the City of Wagner. Power was restored and our food was prepared by Boom’s and delivered in a timely fashion.

10 YEARS AGO 2015 The Labor Day committee planted a tree in honor of the 2015 Labor Day Parade Marshals, Bonnie and Ray Soukup.

Avon Fire Department had a family flair at Wagner’s annual Labor Day Firemen’s Waterfight on Monday afternoon. Father-and-son team Mike Petrik, along with his sons Matthew and Brady, joined forces to represent Avon in the competition.

10 YEARS AGO 2015 First Baptist Church celebrates 125 years. Attendance was down at the annual Avon Fire Department Tractor Pull, possibly due to the church's celebration.

10 YEARS AGO 2015 Lake Andes Fish Days 2015 Queen Rebecca Lehmann and Lil Miss Fishy Alyza Rucktaeschel participated in the 115th Labor Day Parade. Lake Andes locals, Cambria and Landon Ronfeldt participated in the Wagner Labor Day Pedal Pull.

City library news. 9-10-25 In August 2025, eighteen public libraries across South Dakota were awarded accreditation, recognizing their commitment to providing high-quality services to their communities.
