He took his experience from working with his dad at the locker and worked as a beef lugger at lowa Beef Process in Sioux City, lowa. He then moved to western Colorado where he did some mining work and helped in building the Eisenhower Tunnel.

Funeral services for Walter Schaffer, 84, formerly of Mound City, were Monday, August 17 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Mound City. Burial followed at the Mound City Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home.

Janice (Jan) Marie Denker Jiricek of Greeley, Colorado, passed away on July 28, 2026, at the age of 86. She was born on June 29, 1940, south of Wagner to Edward Carl Denker and Hazel Blanch (Dunsmore) Denker. Janice attended Wagner High School in Wagner and graduated in 1958.

Karla Renee Brown was born on January 5, 1970, to Carroll 'Shorty' Brown and Katherine (Bachmann) Brown in Wagner.Funeral services took place at Zion Lutheran Church on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. Burial followed at Woodlawn Cemetery.
