As school begins, so do the fall sports. Practices have already started and players have been working hard.We interviewed seniors in volleyball, football, and cross country. Breanna Hento is most excited about making new memories and to win not only for themselves, but for their team.

The Wagner Raiders entered the 2026 football season with a younger roster, some new faces in key positions and a simple goal from week to week — keep improving.That approach has already produced a strong start. Wagner opened its season Friday with a 26-0 victory.

With plenty of experience returning to the mat and a group of seniors ready to lead the way, the 2026 cheer squad is working toward big goals this season.Head Coach Michaela Ziegler said the competitive team includes 14 cheerleaders in grades 8-12.

The Andes Central/Dakota Christian Thunder volleyball team heads into the 2026 season with increased numbers, more experience and plenty of positive energy.Head Coach Allison Ekroth has 21 girls out for volleyball this year, up from 14 in 2025.

The AC/DC/TDA Thunderhawks opened their 2026 football season Friday, Aug. 21, falling 43-8 to Platte-Geddes.The Black Panthers got off to a quick start, scoring less than two minutes into the game on a 12-yard punt return by Easton Schuman.

The Avon Lady Pirates will take the court this fall with a larger group and plenty of returning experience as they look to build throughout the season. Head Coach Lindsey Fathke has 28 girls in grades 8-12 out for volleyball this year, almost 10 more than last season.

Six athletes from the Wagner Waves Swim Team competed at the 2026 AAU Junior Olympics from July 27th – August 2nd in Des Moines, IA as part of Team Nebraska Swim along with other athletes from the James River Valley League.

The Avon 10U Baseball Team had a successful weekend competing in the VFW 10U State Tournament in Beresford on July 24th, 25th, and 26th. They were in the Charlie Division. They finished pool play 3-0-1 and earned the #1 seed going into bracket play.

Wagner’s Post 11 American Junior Legion team hosted the Region 4B Tournament July 27-29. Wagner was up for the first game on Monday as they played the Scotland-Menno-Freeman-Canistota 79ers.
