Red Raider Cheer gets underway with their competitions on Saturday, August 31st at Gregory at 11 a.m. This year’s cheer team is led by coaches, Michaela Ziegler and Ciera Hansen. This is Coach Ziegler’s third year and Coach Hansen’s eleventh year coaching.

The Avon Little League/ Softball program hosted a MLB Pitch, Hit, and Run Competition on July 30th.

Avon softball concluded the 2024 season by winning the Gary Pepper Combined Overall Award for the second consecutive year. The Gary Pepper Award is named in honor of longtime Scotland resident and athletic booster Gary Pepper who passed away this spring.

On Monday, July 29, Wagner’s Post 7319 16U teener squad played host to Madison. This would be the beginning of a best of three series, with the winner advancing to the state tournament. In game one Brady Cournoyer took to the mound for Wagner. He would go 5.

Pauline McEntee took 1st place in the 75+ age Womens division in the National Senior Bowling Tournament in Cincinnati Ohio this week. She competed with bowlers from 45 states and 5 Canada provinces! Congratulations Pauline!

The Southeast Elite battled 20 other teams from around the state of South Dakota in the USA softball Class C 12U softball tournament. Elite 12, Oahe 5 In game one the Elite took on the Oahe 605. The Elite fell behind 2-0 after one inning.

Madison held the VFW Youth Baseball State Championships on July 12th – 14th. The Avon 8U baseball team under the guidance of coaches Nathan Schultz, Dwight Brandt, Kenny Podzimek and Colt Wolf recently played in the state tournament, bringing home a State Championship title.

The Avon swim team has done it again. For the fourth year in a row, the Avon swim team took home the team title from the League Championship Swim Meet in Platte on July 17th and 18th. The team had 57 swimmers compete at the event.

On Tuesday, July 23, Wagner’s Post 11 Senior Legion team traveled to Corsica to participate in the Region 4B tournament. The first matchup was with Scotland-Menno-Freeman.

On Friday, July 26, the 14U Teeners of Wagner VFW Post 7319 traveled to Beresford to take part in the Class A state tournament. The first game was played against Elk Point-Jefferson and it was a high scoring affair. Wagner, unfortunately, ended up on the short end of a 16-13 score.
