FACT BRIEF: DID SD STOP PUBLISHING PHEASANT POPULATION ESTIMATES? YES.

The South Dakota Game Fish & Parks Department stopped publishing an estimate of the pheasant population ahead of the hunting season in 2019. The counts were conducted by state employees who would drive the same routes every year and count the number of pheasants they saw.

Kevin Tjeerdsma, manager of Farmers Pride Cooperative in Avon, reports that this year’s harvest is shaping up to be one for the records. “So far, we’ve taken in over 850,000 bushels of soybeans, and we’re about 90 percent finished with soybean harvest,” Tjeerdsma said.

American Legion Greer Post #11 held its monthly meeting on October 18th, 2025. We welcomed Josh Woods, as our newest Legion member. Commander Rados thanked the cooks for the delicious meal. Chaplain Don Kotab then gave the invocation which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
