TWO-ACT PLAY

The Two Act Play was held on Saturday, April 12, and was a great success. The play was directed by Loretta Knodel and included two seniors, Gunnar Voigt and Kaeli Wallinga. It consisted of many different scenes about aliens interacting with humans.

LARGE GROUP VOCAL CONTEST

On Wednesday April 9th, the Avon High School choir and band attended the large group music contest in Vermillion. The choir performed a total of four songs.

AttheMertanHaaseMath Competition in Vermillion, the Pirates earned 3rd place overall in the small school division. Individually, Abby Gretschmann received a “Superior” rating in the Algebra II division.

y: The Jolly Roger Staff It is no surprise that spring is a very busy season for all students, coaches, and teachers, especially those heavily involved in all of the activities AHS has to offer.

POPPY POSTER CONTEST WINNERS ANNOUNCED

The American Legion Auxiliary of Arthur Wissman Post #150 of Avon recently sponsored their Poppy Poster Contest at Avon Public School. Students in grades 2,3,5,6,7, and 8 submitted entries. Several posters were sent on to the Department of South Dakota for further judging.

PLANTING SEASON IS UPON US

Planting season is underway, and local farmers are busy preparing fields and planting crops. Drivers are urged to be extra cautious on rural roads, as tractors and other large equipment will be moving slowly and making frequent stops or wide turns.

Glen Weston Parents: Godwin Weston and Juanita St. Pierre Glen Weston is one of this week's senior spotlights. During his time at WHS, Glen participated in football for four years, basketball for two years, and baseball for one year.

Each year, volunteers across Charles Mix County dedicate their time and talents to making their communities a better place to live. These efforts were celebrated during National Volunteer Week, April 20–26, joining millions of volunteers nationwide being recognized for their contributions.

AVON TRACK HONORARY REFEREE: DARLA VAN GERPEN

Darla (Odens) Van Gerpen graduated from Avon High School in 1981 and Mount Marty College in 1985 with a degree in Chemistry and Secondary Education. She began her teaching career in 1985 at Parkston High School and was also assistant girls basketball coach.
