Earlier this month, our state was hit by a bomb cyclone – an unusual name to match unusual circumstances.

Starting sometime in the middle ages, throughout many lands, there were “bone-setters” who knew about splinting, how to treat broken bones with splints made from sticks, leather and clay.

Today’s workforce, economy, and consumer needs are constantly changing. They’re far different than they were a generation ago, and, in some respects, they’re already different than they were just a few years ago.

Mobridge. Madison. Tripp. Rapid City. Bryant. Rosholt. Huron. Watertown. The common thread between these communities? Nursing home closures. In all, 19 nursing home facilities around our state have closed their doors in recent years.

Psalm 119:89-91 "Forever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven. Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: Thou hast established the earth, and it abideth. They (Thy words) continue this day according to thine ordinances: For all are thy servants."(KJV) Thy word is settled in heaven.

“Either write things worth reading, or do things worth writing,” is a quote often attributed to Benjamin Franklin. That’s often how I feel like my relationship goes with the press. I hope to be doing things worth writing about, and I hope they are writing things worth reading.

Thanks to better technology, innovative research, and greater access to information, Americans are living with more effective tools to help them pursue healthier, more active lives.

PROVERBS 17:10 "A reproof entereth into a wise man that a hundred stripes into a fool." (KJV) This scripture is talking about the council of those who are possibly thinking about their faith being not so strong.

When in life does one come to confront the tough truth that each of us will eventually die? In my years as an internist caring for young and old alike, some people understand this early, and some people never get it. In denying death, we intensify our fear of it.

If life were a round of golf, I’d be putting on the 17th green. But you know what? That 18th hole could be very interesting with a dogleg, sand traps, trees, water, and a sloping green.
