As the sun started coming up over the trees, you could tell that it was going to be a beautiful day for a cross country race. This is the first Saturday meet of the season and it was going to be a good day. The race was held at The Platte Geddes Golf Course in Platte, SD.

The Friday night lights were shining bright in Avon on September 19th, but it was the home team that truly lit up the field.

On the road and under pressure, the Avon Pirates didn’t flinch. Facing Corsica/Stickney on September 12th, Avon delivered a dominant performance, shaking off an early deficit and roaring back to secure a commanding 54-8 victory.

The Avon Lady Pirates brought energy and execution to the court on Saturday, September 20, as they competed in the Bon Homme Clash Tournament.

It was a tough night at the net for the Avon Lady Pirates on Tuesday, September 16, as they faced off against a strong Wagner Lady Raiders squad. Despite gritty defense and determined play, Avon fell in straight sets, losing 0-3 in varsity action. The loss drops their season record to 4-4.

Tucker Tjeerdsma, an 8thgrade student and dedicated cross country runner, has been hitting the trails for the past two years—and he's not slowing down anytime soon. With a positive attitude and big goals, Tucker shared what keeps him motivated in this demanding, yet rewarding sport.

Our football Pirate of the Week is Easton Sees, a sophomore here at AHS, and the quarterback of our team. He has a couple of achievable goals in mind for the season. One is for the team to play to the best of their abilities, and his other goal is “Winning the State Championship.
