ALTHEBERT ZEPHIER

Althebert “Bootie” Zephier, 82, of Marty died Friday, July 4, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Wagner. Funeral services were, Wednesday, July 9, at the Greenwood Presbyterian Church in Greenwood. Burial was in the Greenwood Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Greenwood, with military honors. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner was in charge of arrangements.

Bootie was the son of Zelma (St. Pierre) and Moses Zephier and was born May 10, 1943 in Wagner. He had seven siblings: Quentin, Cleo, Claudette, Leatrice, Ethelyn, Jerry and Sherrilyn. He grew up with his family in Greenwood and attended school there, as well as in Ravinia and Flandreau. Later, he earned his GED and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1964. Bootie was a proud veteran, member of the Ihanktowan Akicita, and served as the Commander of McBride Post 257 for many years.

Bootie met the love of his life, Linda, in 1979, and they were married on July 23, 1999. Together, they had one daughter, Adrienne, whom they loved very much. Bootie worked various jobs throughout his life before working at Marty Indian School as a security guard for many years and retired in 2007. He had two grandsons, Brannon and Brycen, whom he adored and loved.

Bootie enjoyed watching sports and attending games of his many grandkids throughout the years. He enjoyed going to watch the Marty Braves basketball games and watching sports on TV. His favorite teams were the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. He enjoyed taking cruises through Greenwood and visiting with family.

He leaves to mourn his children: Adrienne (Doug), Stan (Alana), and Carol (Thomas). Brother Jerry (Eunice) Zephier. Cousins Lynn Bruguier, Shelly St. Pierre, Juanita Antelope, Alvin Provost, and many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

Bootie is preceded in death by his wife Linda Zephier, sisters Cleo, Claudette, Leatrice, Ethelyn, and Sherri, brother Quentin, twin daughters Jolene and Jody Zephier, paternal grandparents Joseph & Josephine (Johnson) Zephier, maternal grandparents Justy & Angelic (Brunot) St. Pierre, Nieces Roma Zephier and Armantha McBride, Nephews Terrence Zephier and Theron Zephier Sr., and grandchildren.
