Funeral Mass for Gary Carda, 73, of Wagner was held Tuesday, April 22 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Wagner. Burial was in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, rural Wagner. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner was in charge of arrangements.

Gary Steven Carda was born January 25, 1952 in Wagner, the son of Frank and Thelma (Smith) Carda. He died Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Gary grew up on a farm southwest of Wagner. He graduated from Wagner High School in 1970 and continued his post education in Omaha. He married Pamela Bren on May 27, 1978 in Wagner. Gary owned and operated his own service station, Carda Service. He later worked at the Lake Andes and Wagner Coop for many years and retired in 2014.

Gary will be remembered for his love of hunting, fishing, camping, card playing, his daily car rides with his dogs and visiting with anyone and everybody. He was a real family man. Gary also served on the Wagner Fire Department for many years.

Thankful for having shared his life are his wife Pamela Carda of Wagner; four sons: Frank, Joseph, Kevin (Chel Larsen), and Benjamin (Sarah) Carda, all of Wagner; one granddaughter, Cattibrie; brother, Dave (Nancy) Carda of Fairfax; two sisters: Donna (Walt) Ishmael of Wagner and Brenda Hrdlicka of Yankton; several brothers and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews who were very important and loved by him.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Steven; brother Larry; brother-in-law David Bren; and sisters-in-law, Cheryl Anderson and Kathy Bren.
