Godwin Weston, 72, of Wagner died Saturday, August 23, 2025 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral services were were held Thursday, August 28 at the Greenwood Community Center followed by burial in the Greenwood Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Greenwood. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner was in charge of arrangements.

Godwin Spirit Weston was born May 6, 1953, to Amelia Imogene (Hare) and Frances Vern Weston in Snake Creek. He attended St. Paul Indian Mission School through the 8th grade and later went on to Flandreau Indian School, where he graduated in 1972. After high School, Godwin proudly joined the United States Marine Corps, serving his country until 1975.

Throughout his life, Godwin served on many tribal boards, always giving back to his people. At the time of his passing, he was a member of the Elderly Board.

In 1977, he met Juanita St. Pierre and together they raised three daughters: Henrietta, Gwyn and Devin. Godwin was blessed with 13 grandchildren: Amari, Dalynn, Aden, Embree, Trevin, Andrew, Glen, Leighoni, Cashmere, Corey and Eliwhom he loved deeply and thought the world of.

Godwin is survived by Juanita and their daughters. He was preceded in death by his parents and ten siblings.
