I guess it‘s fitting that things are coming together in a tidy package since it is the time of year for tidy packages. This will be the column that goes to press on the day before Christmas, so I’ll use this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.

Should you contribute additional money to your retirement account this year? With year-end nearly here, make sure you have contributed enough. 401(k) contributions lower your taxable income now, but increase taxable income during retirement at the time of withdrawal.

Rog's Rod & Nimrod Mule deer have become an increasingly coveted trophy, and drawing an “any deer” tag in order to hunt them has steadily become more difficult. As I know a couple of guys who hunted mule deer this past fall, I thought I would take a look at their hunts.

Weather Watch A long time ago, we had snow on Halloween (don’t ask me what year) and the snow never did go away until Spring. That made for a long winter. I’m guessing this one is going to seem about as long.

First, how does property become “unclaimed”? Generally, if the property in question has not had any activity within a certain period of time, e.g.

Every December, the state legislature meets to receive a budget proposal from the governor. This proposal is the starting point for the legislative budget process, which ends with the passage of a budget bill at the end of session in March.

In last week’ column, I mentioned taking a shot at a deer that was roughly 350 yards away. I’ll admit that the shot was, up to a point, inspired by the size of the deer. I can’t recall the last time I took that long a shot, but it would go back to the 70’s prior to my debilitating tremor.

Well, here we go again, as Ronald Reagan used to say. There is something about the years that end in the number 8 that is kind of weird. Think back to the years ‘48, ‘58, and on through ‘88, ‘98, and now 2018.
