10 Years Ago – 2014 Pickstown preserved its history and celebrated its future with their museum dedication. Speakers for the event included Tom Brokaw, Col. Joel Cross and Lt. Gov. Matt Michels. Matt and Megan Lindholm announced the birth of their daughter Eva Hazel.

Volunteer firefighter, Brian Janssen, has been with the Avon Volunteer Fire Department for over 40 years. Brian comes from a firefighting family. His dad, Don, and his brothers, Doug and Keith were all firefighters in Avon.

Bon Homme County 4-H horse members will be participating in the 2024 Bon Homme & Charles Mix County Horse Show at the 7-N Horse Arena in Springfield Tuesday, June 25th. This is a combined county show. Registration will start at 9 a.m. with the show to start at 9:30 a.m.

The Annual Open Class Show will be held during the Bon Homme County 4-H Achievement Days. If you enjoy making projects or have a hobby and would like to show off your work, here is your chance! You can enter a variety of items to show.

10 Years Ago – 2014 The 66th Annual Czech Days was to be held in Tabor on June 19th – 21th. The Avon track was stripped the past week by Fisher Track of Iowa. Pastor and Mrs. Terry Majors gave a presentation on their missionary work in Haiti at the Friedensberg Bible Church.

Earnest Rouse enlisted in the Army in 1951 at the age of 16 with the signature of his mother. Rouse had two older brothers who were already paratroopers in the Army and Rouse wanted to continue the family legacy even if he was not quite of age yet to enlist himself.

The SD Discovery Center Planetarium Program will be presented in Lake Andes on Wednesday, June 12th at the Andes Central Auxiliary Gym from 12:30 - 3:30 p.m. Native Skyes fro 12:30-1:30, Moon Phases from 1:30-2:30 and Tour of the Solar System from 2:30-3:30. No charge to attend.

The annual Fish Days celebration was held June 6th – 8th. The theme was “Hunting for A Good Time”. Parade Marshalls were Harold and Anita Miller. Fish Days Queen was Jacie Braun and runner up was Sydney Myears. Kristina Kranig announced her candidacy for Charles-Mix auditor.

Dave’s Motor Supply was owned and operated by Roger Blaha’s father in 1974. In 2009, Roger followed in his father’s footsteps and bought the business from his dad, rebranding it as Rog’s Auto.

President Becky Brunsing called the Wagner Rotary Club to order on Wednesday, June 5th at the Rotary Building on Main Street Wagner.
