Mayor Thornton and City Administrator Houseman attended the recent Armory Board meeting. Total expenses for the armory this year were approximately $120,000 with electricity alone costing $37,000.

One of this week’s WCS senior spotlights features Stephanie Atencio. Stephanie is the daughter of Charisse Redlightning. Stephanie goes by the nickname Steph.
Greer Unit #11 American Legion Auxiliary held their monthly meeting on January 16, 2025 at the Post Home with 13 members present. The meeting was called to order by President Alyssa Mathis. Chaplain Margie Stone read the opening prayer.
The meeting was brought to order on a blistery Wednesday by President Jordan Weber’s ring of the bell. He led the group in prayer, and then Rotarian Margaret Doom introduced her guest, her husband Noah Bensen.
PIERRE, S.D. – The Department of Revenue’s Motor Vehicle Division will launch a new title and registration system, 605Drive, on February 17, 2025.
Training for the new system began on December 9, 2024, with basic trainings for county and internal users.
Martin Yost is being honored as Avon’s January Veteran of the Month. Yost joined the Army National Guard in August of 1985 as a 20-year-old young man and is currently in his 39th year of service.

What started out with only a 1–3-inch snowfall accumulation expected over the weekend, ended up being over 6 inches that fell upon Avon. As Mayor Kevin Tjeerdsma was up for re-election there was the potential to have a mayoral election should someone run against him.
